Accountant Real Estate

We are currently looking for an Accountant Real Estate for one of our clients based in Amsterdam. The Accounting team takes care of the accounting activities of legal entities across multiple jurisdictions and countries in Europe. The team is responsible for the timely and accurate recording and reporting of all transactions concerning Real Estate & Capital expenditures, General & Administrative expenses including pay-roll accounting and Non-Operating P&L and Balance Sheet items such as equity, investments and corporate income tax. The team's responsibilities additionally include taking ownership over several "lines" in the financial statements and providing the required analysis and explanation to management, the controllers and other stakeholders.

The Accountant is responsible for several of the accounting processes included in the below tasks and responsibilities of the team.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare & Consolidate the European reports:
    • Monthly/Quarterly Real Estate reporting (development summary, investments' actuals vs budget cost variance, land held report, real estate roll forward)
    • Quarterly SOX reporting
  • Maintain the Project Costing and Asset management module and sub ledger and record all Real Estate and Capital expenditure related transactions for controlled Regions:
    • Acquisitions and dispositions of the Assets (Lands/ Buildings)
    • Asset management accounting including impairments, depreciation, write-offs, pursuit costs and status changes of real estate
    • Capitalized interest
    • Construction In Progress (CIP) accruals
    • Impairment of goodwill and other assets
    • Development fees
  • Understand and reconcile the general ledger accounts related to above mentioned topics and sub ledgers
  • Cooperate closely with Project Management, FP&A and Corporate Finance team by providing information on accounting treatment and providing insight into the variances between actuals and forecast
  • Ensure timely follow-up of information and reporting requests from the business
  • Ensure compliance with accounting rules (local, US-GAAP, LUX-GAAP and IFRS) and company accounting policies and act as process owner of internal control (SOX)
  • Support internal and external audits and assist in the audit pack preparation
  • Support process improvements to gain efficiencies and further standardize processes on an European level

Qualifications and experience:

  • Financial education on a Bachelor's level
  • 2-4 years work experience in a similar position
  • Experience with handling large volumes of legal entities and properties
  • Experience and affinity with ERP systems, PeopleSoft and Yardi is preferred
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written), knowledge of other European languages is an advantage
  • Influencing skills, cultural sensitivity, proactive, collaborative, hands-on and the ability to reflect
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast moving and demanding environment
